pinlight
Privacy Policy
Last updated: May 2, 2026pinlight is a local macOS presentation spotlight tool. It uses Screen Recording permission so it can highlight, freeze, and magnify areas of your screen while you actively use the app.
pinlight does not upload, record, sell, or share your screen content.
Information pinlight processes
pinlight processes screen content locally on your Mac only when you actively use features such as Spotlight, freeze, magnify, or capture review.
pinlight also stores local app preferences, such as shortcut settings, visual settings, and magnify background choices.
Screen Recording permission
pinlight asks macOS for Screen Recording permission because macOS requires that permission before an app can see screen content.
pinlight uses this permission to:
- show and update the live spotlight preview,
- freeze a selected region for review,
- magnify selected screen areas,
- let you save a capture only when you explicitly choose to save it.
Screen content is processed locally on your Mac. It is not sent to pinlight, Orlumas, Apple, or any third-party analytics service by pinlight.
What pinlight does not do
- pinlight does not upload your screen content.
- pinlight does not record your screen in the background.
- pinlight does not secretly save screenshots.
- pinlight does not collect keystroke logs or background input history.
- pinlight does not sell, rent, or share personal data.
- pinlight does not use analytics or telemetry in the current version.
Local storage
pinlight stores app preferences locally on your Mac using standard macOS storage such as app preferences and Application Support folders.
If you choose to save a capture, macOS shows a save dialog and you choose the file location. pinlight writes that file only to the location you selected.
Input handling
pinlight observes input only as needed for app features, such as global hot keys, holding Control to trigger Spotlight, pointer tracking during selection, and active selection interactions.
pinlight does not collect or store what you type.
Third parties
pinlight does not send screen content or app usage data to third-party services in the current version.
Apple's macOS permission and notarization systems may be involved when you install or run the app, but pinlight does not use Apple services to upload your screen content.
Changes to this policy
If pinlight adds features that change how screen content, saved captures, telemetry, or input handling work, this policy will be updated before those changes are released.
